Annual Aje Festival takes place in Ile-Ife

Image result for Annual Aje Festival takes place in Ile-IfeNigeria’s economic growth and prosperity can be speedily achieved, if its leaders paid heed to the ancient path , and returned to the cradle where, according to Yoruba folklore, the world’s first trade and commerce occurred.

In this special report, we follow TVC NEWS’ Rafiu Hammed to the Igbo Mekun market in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun state, where this year’s Aje Festival was celebrated with prayers for Nigeria’s economic prosperity.

It’s the celebration of the annual Aje Festival in Ile-Ife.

Aje festival is one of the many festivals reinvigorated by Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi since he ascended the throne of his forefathers.

According to Yoruba mythology, Aje is the goddess that brings fortunes, wealthy and economic prosperity to human beings.

This is why till today, the Yorubas always wish, hope and pray to encounter Aje, the goddess of economic prosperity in their commercial endeavours.

As Tradition demands, Ooni Ogunwusi alongside his subjects, Aje worshippers and adherents embarked on a procession from the palace to Aje shrine at Enuwa Square to observe some prayers.

Oba Adeyeye harped on the need for unity among Nigerians through the Festival.

Some of the tourists at the event extolled the virtues of Aje and spoke on their expectations after the celebration. They also advocated global celebration of the festival.

The festival featured display and other side attractions by various groups as well as appeasement to the goddess of Aje to bring economic fortunes to all.
