Ambode inaugurates Neighbourhood Safety Corps

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday inaugurated the Neighbourhood Safety Corps to complement the efforts of other security agencies in policing the State.

The Safety Corps, according to the governor, is not to compete with the Nigeria Police Force or any other paramilitary agency, but collaborate with them to ensure a crime free Lagos.

Ambode noted that the Neighbourhood Safety Corps has provided both direct and indirect employment for at least seven thousands Lagosians. He charged them to work diligently and shun all forms of abuses that can dent the image of the Corps.

The governor said the 100 Neighbourhood Safety Corps would be deployed to each of the local government to complement the efforts of other security agencies in policing the State.

The event which took place at the Agege township stadium was well attended by top government officials including the deputy governor Idiat Oluranti Adebule, Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa, serving Commissioners and body of permanent secretaries. Others include traditional rulers such as the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akinolu, Oba of Agege amongst others.

The Neighbourhood Safety Corps board is head by DIG Israel Ajao (Rtd), a former Commissioner of Police in Lagos and Ogun and DIG Criminal Investigation.

Other members of the Board include representative Of the State Commissioner Of Police, Suleiman Lewi (CSP); Chairman Lagos Task Force, Yinka Egbeyemi (SP); a representative of the Department of State Security Service (DSS); Executive Security, Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Razaq Balogun; Community Representatives of Epe Division, Dengel Anifowoshe; Ikeja Division, Chief Tunde Aboyade; Lagos Division,  Ishola Laguda; Badagry Division, Ronke Ogabi; and Ikorodu Division, Kofoworola Adegboye.
