The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has denied sending a letter to the Office of the Head of Service demanding the recall of the former chairman of presidential pension task team, Abdulrasheed Maina.

Malami dropped this on Thursday while appearing before the House of Representatives Adhoc committee investigating disappearance, reappearance, re-reinstatement and promotion of the former chairman on pension reform task team.

Appearing before the same Committee, the Head of Service of the federation, Oyo-Ita said she received a letter from Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, requesting Maina’s reinstatement but Malami denied that the letter came from his office.

The Attorney-General had previously defended Maina’s recall, saying he was brought back to help government fight corruption in pension administration.

Maina was the head of a government pension reform committee until he left the job and fled oversees in 2013, after he was accused of embezzling two billion naira pension fund.

The House of Representatives on Tuesday constituted an ad hoc Committee to investigate the reinstatement and promotion of Abdulrasheed Maina from the rank of Assistant Director to an Acting Director in the Ministry of Interior.
