NIMET WARNS OF FLIGHT CANCELLATION OVER HARMATTAN HAZE

NIMET and climate change experts warns of flight cancellation and respiratory challenges as harmattan begins.

Prospect of dust haze in moderate horizontal visibility 2000m to 5000m over North West and North east states .

Climate change experts and doctors encourage federal government to provide health care security.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has warned that there will be disruption of flight operations in some parts of the country especially the North, due to the onset of harmattan.

Experts on climate change and doctors also urge citizens to plan adequately and protect themselves .

Abuja experiences three kinds of weather every year, hot and humid rainy season from April to October , dry season from October to April and brief windy foggy season in between known as harmattan.

The Harmattan season is caused by the dust laden North East wind blowing from the Sahara.

This weather comes with its own challenges which affects the health of citizens.

This year the Nigerian Meteorological Agency through a statement by its spokesman Muntari Ibrahim disclosed that the harmattan season will affect flight operations  in most  parts of the North .

He also warns citizens to expect low visibility values , prospects of dust haze in moderate horizontal visibility two thousand altitude to five thousand altitude over  Bauchi Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano , Maiduguri.

North Central states could report sunny and hazzy visibility of five to seven kilometers which is expected to end next year.

TVC News spoke with climate  change expert , David Terungwa who told us that wiyh climate change there bound to be changes in various seasons and this will affect everyone .

He also urges Nigerians to get ready for the season and protect themselves.

He urges citizens to take precautionary measures against infections .
