The two-day National protest organized by the Nigerian Labour Congress in solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other Tertiary Institution unions has recorded low turnout in Zamfara
Students from Tertiary Institutions from across the state have also join the protest
The protest is to compel the federal government to resolve lingering issues to re-open universities for academic activities
The Academic Staff Union of Universities have been on strike since February this year over the failure of the federal government to implement the agreement reached previously
Members of the organized Labour who converged converged on the NLC Secretariat along Gada Biyu in Gusau, said the closure of federal Tertiary Institutions across the country is not good for Nigeria’s Education, growth and development
Despite the low turnout, the protest is yet to commence as at 10:48am.
The protesters were carrying placards with various inscriptions and chanting solidarity songs
They urged the federal government to honour the agreement reached with ASUU and allow students to resume in different institutions
The Nigeria Labour Congress insist it will embark on a three-day warning strike immediately after the Tuesday and Wednesday nationwide protest in solidarity with the striking Lecturer’s.
