Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has been sacked as leader of the ruling party, ZANU-PF.
It also expelled Grace Mugabe, wife of the President from the party.
The party held a special central committee meeting this Sunday morning to determine Mugabe’s fate after he refused to step down despite the political stalemate in the country.
Hundreds of thousands of people flooded the streets of Zimbabwe’s capital on Saturday singing, dancing and hugging soldiers in an outpouring of elation that president Robert Mugabe’s rule could come to an end.
Emotions ran high in Harare as Zimbabweans spoke of a second liberation for the former British colony, alongside their dreams of political and economic change after two decades of deepening repression and hardship.
The party however appointed the former Vice President Mnangagwa as its interim leader.
