Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar says he is in touch with the Nigerian Mission in Libya following the drama that has surrounded the 2025 AFCON qualifying match between the Mediterranean Knights of Libya and the Super Eagles Of Nigeria.

The Match slated for Tuesday the 15th of October is in danger of not holding with the Nigerian Football Federation having announced the withdrawal of the Super Eagles from the match after an hostage like situation unfolded at the Al Abraq International Airport in ,Libya where the Super Eagles landed to honour the match.

The players and officials have not been allowed out of the Airport since Sunday when they arrived neither have they been able to book hotel rooms.

The Airport is reportedly 3 Hours away by road from the Benghazi venue of the match.

The situation according to Mr Tuggar is getting the required attention from the Head of Nigeria’s mission to Libya, Stephen Awuru.

Mr Tuggar made this known in a post on his verified X formerly Twitter on Monday morning.

See Post below…

I have been closely monitoring the situation involving the Super Eagles in Libya.

Through the Head of Nigerian Mission in Tripoli, Libya, Amb. Stephen Anthony Awuru, the Mission has maintained contact with the NFF, and the Libyan authorities since last night. Despite efforts, Libyan authorities have not yet authorized the Nigerian Mission’s trip to Bayda City, where the airport is located.

In the meantime, the Head of the Nigerian Community in Benghazi, Mr. Morris Eromosele, arrived at the location at 6 am this morning with necessary supplies and internet access. We will continue to follow developments and await a report for further action. https://x.com/yusuftuggar/status/1845755631862505496?s=48&t=SVZuhvQXli_MwTVp1wXsBQ
