Typhoon Yagi has killed 36 more people in Vietnam in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 233, according to the country’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Control.

The storm has left 103 people missing and 823 injured, according to the agency, with Lao Cai province being the hardest hit, accounting for 98 deaths and 81 missing individuals.

Over 130,000 people were evacuated, and 136,705 homes were damaged.

The cyclone also wreaked havoc on infrastructure, bringing down communications poles and uprooting trees in urban areas.

Over 200,000 hectares of rice fields and approximately 40,000 hectares of crops were inundated, causing significant agricultural losses.

Railway services were suspended due to damaged lines and water, causing a substantial impact on transportation networks.

International aid efforts are underway, with Australia already donating eight tons of disaster supplies.

The ASEAN Regional Coordination Center and Japan’s JICA are anticipated to provide significant assistance in the following days.

China and Vietnam have launched coordinated meteorological disaster prevention operations in reaction to the typhoon’s impact, according to Chinese official media.
