The former Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Tam David-West, has died at the age of eighty three.
A family member told our correspondent that Mr David-West died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, where he spent eleven days, due to ill health.
Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Toye Akinrinlola, confirmed the development but did not reveal the cause of the former minister’s demise.
Meanwhile, President Buhari has commiserated with Mr David-West’s family and the people of Buguma, Kalabari Kingdom of Rivers State.
President Buhari says his ally and friend had an indomitable spirit, stood resolutely by whatever he believed in, and was in a class of his own.
He urges all those who believe in the ideals of the academic and social critic to emulate same, for the betterment of Nigeria and humanity.
Mr David-West was also the Minister of Mines, Power and Steel under General Ibrahim Babangida’s regime and Commissioner of Education in Rivers State.
