The forensics firm employed by the Lagos State government to conduct a crime scene investigation and. review of the alleged shooting of protesters. at the Lekki toll plaza on October 20, 2020 has presented its report to the judicial panel.

The witness said the live ammunition presented by the Army is the same calibre as the cartridge casing submitted by the panel.

the witness who’s the md of the forensics firm said they visited the admiralty plaza, conservation plaza and Ikoyi link bridge where the servers of lCC are kept.

the Evidence Submitted from the PANEL are two (2) cartridge casings from expended 7.62x39mm live recovered from the scene and An external hard drive containing the footage recorded that day belonging to the ICC.

the firm also relied on the evidence of the Nigerian Army which include One (1) 7.62 x 39mm expended live cartridge casing and
(1) 7.62x39mm unexpended live round, as well as 1 7.62x 51mm unexpended blank round and one expended blank.

In its testimony last year, The Nigerian Army, represented by General Ibrahim Taiwo, the Commander of 81 Division, told the panel that soldiers fired only blank bullets in the air at the Tollgate to ward off hoodlums who attacked them with stones on their patrol around the Lekki/Eti-Osa corridor.

The forensics witness also said the video evidence tendered by the Lekki Concession Company couldn’t be verified because they didn’t have access to the servers from which the source recording was made.

But he noted that, the evidence did not show any signs of being doctored, and that there was no apparent sign of damage as a result of discharge of live ammunition around the area.

Further cross examination of the witness continues on Saturday.
