The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has announced that it has obtained N1.6 billion from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support 12,983 students for the 2024/2025 academic session, covering all disciplines, including medical students.
UNILORIN’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Egbewole disclosed this to reporters on Monday while heralding the university’s 40th convocation ceremony, coinciding with its 50th anniversary.
He said, “This laudable programme of the Federal Government has guaranteed that no student will drop out as a result of funding.”
Egbewole also praised the interventionist policies of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund), highlighting that N52.6 billion had been allocated to the university in 2025 across 11 areas, including physical infrastructure and programme upgrades, academic staff training, ICT support, entrepreneurship, and career services.
He added that the university received N300 million for zonal interventions to execute specific projects, and a Special High Impact Project (SHIP) funding of N4 billion to upgrade facilities at the College of Health Sciences, along with N750 million for the construction of a new hostel at the college.

The UNILORIN’s vice chancellor announced that 12,653 students would graduate during the convocation. The graduating class for the 2024/2025 academic session includes: 316 First Class graduates, 4,120 Second Class Upper, 5,939 Second Class Lower, 1,078 Third Class, 11 Pass degrees
He also detailed professional and health-related graduates: 175 MBBS, 94 Nursing, 36 Veterinary Medicine, 64 Physiotherapy, and 13 Diploma awardees.
In the postgraduate category, 1,520 students will receive higher degrees, comprising 182 Postgraduate Diplomas, 916 Master’s degrees, 188 professional Master’s, and 234 PhDs.
The VC concluded that the university’s funding and intervention programs ensure accessible education while maintaining quality academic standards across all levels.
