Next Plc, a renowned British fashion retailer, said it achieved a 47% decrease in Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions in the fiscal year 2023, which ended January 28, 2023, compared to its target of decreasing emissions by 55% by 2030, from a baseline year of 2016-17.

The targets have been adopted by the Science-Based Emission Target Initiative (SBTi) and are commensurate with the reductions required to keep global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, as agreed upon in Paris.

In addition, Next met its intensity Scope 3 carbon reduction objective of a 40% reduction by 2030 with a reduction of 29%.

Additionally, the business has met its goal of diverting 95% of waste from landfills. Additionally, Next is a member of the RE100 and EV100, showing its dedication to using only electric vehicles and renewable energy, the firm noted in a news release.

Next’s priorities for operational activities include working with suppliers to reduce the environmental impact of the products they sell, improving energy efficiency, increasing waste recycling, and identifying opportunities to further improve the sustainability of their packaging while reducing its use.

The company is also working to increase the efficiency of its owned delivery fleet, including the introduction of alternative fuels, and to offer services for customers that make use of their products when they no longer need them.
