Donald Trump has hinted the European Union (EU) could be next in line to face tariffs after he announced 25% levies on goods from Mexico and Canada.
Speaking from Maryland, the US president said last night that new tariffs on the EU will “definitely happen” and he threatened to widen the scope of his trade tariffs.
He did not offer details Sunday about when he would impose tariffs elsewhere, but he said they would be coming “pretty soon” for the EU.
“We have over a $300bn deficit,” he said.
“They don’t take our cars, they don’t take our farm products, they take almost nothing and we take everything from them, millions of cars, food and farm products, so the UK is way out of line.
“We’ll about see the UK, but the European Union is really way out of line. The UK is out of line, but I think that one can be worked out, but the European Union is an atrocity what they’ve done.”
