President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended birthday greetings to Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, popularly known as Abena, a longtime political ally and experienced public servant, on the occasion of his birthday on January 9.
In a congratulatory message on Thursday conveyed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Abegunde’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, loyalty, and service to the public good, describing him as “a dependable associate whose political journey has been marked by consistency and steadfastness.”
A trained civil engineer who later studied architecture, Abegunde entered public service through elective politics, winning two terms in the House of Representatives where he represented Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency in Ondo State.
He also served as Secretary to the Ondo State Government, a position in which he was lauded for his “administrative diligence and dedication.”

Currently, Abegunde serves as Executive Director, Corporate Services, at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), where, according to President Tinubu, his extensive experience in governance and public administration continues to have an impact.
Highlighting his strong grassroots appeal and reputation for professionalism, the President noted that Abegunde’s political career has seen “both triumphs and travails,” largely due to his loyalty to leadership and commitment to advancing the public interest.
Abegunde also distinguished himself internationally, serving as a Systems Engineer for the State of Maryland and the United States Patent and Trademark Office, an experience the President said “underscored his versatility and global exposure.”
“In politics, Abegunde’s dedication to public service and good governance has always been evident. As an associate, he remained loyal, consistent and steadfast at all times,” President Tinubu said.
He prayed for Abegunde’s continued health and longevity, wishing him “long life and more years of purposeful service to the nation.”
