Spain have defeated England 2-1 to clinch a fourth European Winners title becoming the most successful team in European Football Men’s competition.
The Spanish national team popularly known as La Furia Roja clinched the title courtesy of two second half goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal with a Cole Palmer goal in the 76th Minute sandwiched between the two Spanish goals.
The match which was a cagey affair opened up in spectacular fashion early in the second half with a Nico Williams goal coming after a lapse in concentration by the English defence which left Williams with ample space to stroke beyond Jordan Pickford in the English goal.
It could have gotten worse for England with Lamine Yamal who has had an outstanding tournament left in acres of space but couldn’t find a way past Pickford.
England Manager Gareth Southgate thereafter introduced Oliver Watkins for Harry Kane quickly followed by Cole Palmer for Kobbie Mainoo.
A combination of the excellent Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka setting up Cole Palmer for an England equaliser in the 76th Minute.
Just when the match seems to be heading for extra time Marc Cucurella sets up substitute Mikel Oyarzabal for the winner in the 86th minute with a low cross into the box which caught the England defence by surprise.
The English team will now have to try again and the quest for a first title since 1966 continues for the Three Lions with questions over the future of Coach Gareth Southgate whose contract expires in December.
