SON cautions consumers against use of expired cooking gas cylinders

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria has cautioned Consumers against the use of expired cooking Gas Cylinders to avoid accidents.

The Director General of the SON, Anthony Aboloma stated this at a General Sensitization on expired cooking Gas Cylinders and the side effects in Osogbo, Osun State.

Some decades ago, Cooking Gas Cylinders were mostly used in the households of the rich, while the poor would prefer cooking stove, firewood and coal pot.

Even with various enlightenment to encourage the use of Gas, less than 20% of Nigerians are using it, according to findings.

But the standards Organization of Nigeria says many of the Gas Cylinders being used in Nigeria are expired.

In a lecture on the topic, Expiration of cooking gas cylinder and its effects,organised by the SON in Osun state, it aimed at exposing people to the dangers inherent in the use of expired Gas cylinders and also what consumers should look out for on the cylinder before
purchasing it.

Participants want the Standards Organisation of Nigeria and the National Orientation Agency to intensify efforts on enlightenment through various media.
