A partnership to ensure the physical presence of International Oil Companies was struck in Yenagoa, Friday when the Bayelsa state governor played host to the Country Chair and Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company.
Governor Seriake Dickson’s request for SPDC support in the area of power generation to boost investor confidence was also greeted with approval by the company’s MD, Osagie Okunbor.
A fifty-year unsuccessful oil exploration in Nigeria came to an end with Shell’s commercial discovery in Otabagi, one of the areas that make up the Oloibiri Oil Field in June, 1956.
The commodity has been the mainstay of the Nigerian economy for sixty one years with no physical presence of Shell and other companies’ corporate offices in Bayelsa State.
The Shell Country Chair and Managing Director Osagie Okunbor therefore, made a commitment to Governor Seriake Dickson’s request of more of the company’s presence in Bayelsa State.
The focus is now on the oil giants to work and change the narrative of over six decades of negligence of the oil producing states.
