Senator Sandy Onor has emerged as the consensus presidential candidate of the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made during the party’s presidential primary collation exercise held at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.
According to the Chairman of the Presidential Primaries Collation Committee, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, the decision followed wide consultations with party stakeholders across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
He explained that the process involved voice votes and internal discussions aimed at producing a consensus candidate for the faction ahead of the forthcoming election cycle.

Following the declaration, Senator Onor was officially presented as the faction’s presidential flagbearer, with party leaders also issuing him a certificate of return.
The Abdulrahman Mohammed-led leadership of the PDP, which is currently overseeing preparations for its national convention, has been at the centre of ongoing internal party realignments.
Party officials present at the exercise described the process as part of efforts to stabilise the party and position it for a strong showing in the 2027 general elections.
Senator Sandy Onor, a former senator representing Cross River Central, is expected to lead the faction’s campaign structure as political preparations intensify within the opposition party.
