The Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Usman Kumo, has withdrawn from the 2027 gubernatorial race in Gombe as he declared his support for the All Progressives Congress, APC consensus candidate Jamilu Gwamna.
Kumo, in a statement on Wednesday announced his decision, while also affirming his belief in party supremacy.
The lawmaker said he never hid his interest in the governorship seat and had been working assiduously to attain his goal.

Kumo said he has aligned with the choice of the party and enjoins his supporters to work for the success of the APC in the forthcoming general election.

The statement partly reads: “Ahead of the 2027 General Elections, our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has since been making preparations aimed at a successful election and victory for the party in the forthcoming polls.
“As a leader and critical stakeholder in the party, l have taken part in the lawmaking processes that produced the Electoral Act 2025 (As Amended).”
