Police arrest lady who faked own kidnap and demanded N10m ransom in Lagos

The Lagos police command has arrested one Ataghar Namdoo for staging her own kidnap.

According to a statement by the commands public relations officer DSP Bala Elkana, it said the aim of the 26 year Ataghar and her Male friends was to extort ten million naira from her employer.

“On  the 9th of January at about 5:30pm, the suspect conspired with her boyfriend Emmanuel Idu and Okpe David to produce a short video of herself blindfolded and driven to a bush in a truck.

“In the  video, the mother of one, was seen in a bush at Sangotedo area Ajah threatened by a man wearing  a mask and holding a Jack knife.

“The abductors were demanding a ten million naira  ransom in the video”.

The police say the two videos were sent to her employer  with a threat to kill her and  also go after the  employer’s family if they fail to pay the ransom. Frightened by the threat  and  follow up calls, the employer reported  the case to the Police.

On the receipt of the case, the Commissioner of Police,  CP Hakeem Odumosu ordered the Anti kidnapping unit to carry out an in depth investigate into the case. The videos were analysed which led to the successful rescue and arrest of one of the two suspects, Okpe David.

Okpe David confessed to have provided the Truck used and the shooting of the video  sent to her employer.

Meanwhile, the police has launched a manhunt for the second suspect, Emmanuel Idu.

Under the Lagos State laws, it is a criminal offence for anyone to fake his or her own kidnap, the offender upon conviction, is liable to 14years imprisonment.

    The police has done an excellent job on this case.
    This people has no conscience at all.
    They fake their kidnap, can’t believe they did that.
    What about thos poor beautiful school girls that were truly kidnapped?
    Do they think they were happy to be kidnapped?
    Well done to al the police authorities for good job espousing those fake people.
