At least 250,750 children have been immunised in Kaugama Local Government Area of Jigawa State during a recent integrated vaccination campaign targeting major childhood diseases.

The exercise covered Measles Rubella, Polio, Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) as part of efforts to protect children and strengthen routine immunisation in the state.

The Local Immunisation Officer, Muhammad Tasiu, said 99,213 children aged between nine months and 14 years were vaccinated against Measles Rubella, achieving 105 percent coverage across the local government area.

He explained that 74,401 children under 23 months received the Novel Oral Polio Vaccine (nOPV2), while another 74,401 children under five were immunised with the Bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine (bOPV), both with 102 percent coverage.

Mr Tasiu added that 2,735 girls aged nine years were given the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to protect them against cervical cancer.

The Health Promotion Officer, Umar Auyo, praised community leaders and development partners for their support throughout the campaign.

In his remarks, the Primary Health Care Coordinator, Audu Aliyu Karkarna, commended the Chairman of Kaugama Local Government, Usman Masaki Dansule, for his continued support and for renovating the Primary Health Care office in Kaugama, providing a more conducive working environment for health workers.

The campaign is part of Jigawa State’s broader commitment to expand immunisation coverage and ensure that every child is protected against preventable diseases in line with Nigeria’s national public health targets.
