Ondo lawmakers direct Chevron to put out oil well fire

Image result for Ondo lawmakers direct Chevron to put out oil well fireOil giant, Chevron has been urged to put out a fire that has been burning at Ojuimole oil field in Ilaje Local Government Area of the state, for some weeks now.

Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly gave the directive at a meeting with Chevron officials and leaders of communities, affected by the raging fire.

Ayodeji Moradeyo reports that the fire at Ojuimole oil field in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, has raged for more than thirty-five days. The fire at the oil field, owned by Chevron is having an adverse effect on people of the affected communities.

This propelled the State legislators to summon this meeting, attended by chevron officials, representatives of the affected communities and other agencies.

The representatives of the affected communities set the stage for an engaging discussion, with their speeches laced with demands.

The meeting also witnessed a rowdy session, when one of the leaders insisted that he be allowed to talk.

After the tension generated subsided, the representative of the oil giant addressed the gathering, with a promise to address the situation. But the presentation did not go down well with the lawmkers, who asked them to come-up with a meaningful solution.
