The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced two regulations that now determine the quantity of Fat and Oil allowed in food supplies to safeguard the health of Nigerians.

The Agency, at a media briefing in Lagos on Monday says it has equally reviewed it’s Pre-Packaged Food Labelling Regulation of 2022.

There have been several campaigns discouraging the use of unhealthy oils, as a result of its harmful effects on people.

Most of these products are reported to contain high cholesterol and other fattening agents that only increase the risk of cardiovascular disease leading to many deaths.

At this media briefing, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control is drawing attention to its efforts at eliminating Trans-Fatty Acid from food supplies in Nigeria.

It has reviewed two regulations that now determine the quantity of Fat and Oil allowed in foods to safeguard the health of Nigerians.

The Agency is not doing this alone, it is collaborating with the Federal ministry of health and other agencies to seek alternative sources to existing partially hydrogenated oil which remain the source of industrially produced Trans-fats.

NAFDAC is convinced that with strict adherence to its newly reviewed regulation known as fats, Oil and food containing Fats and Oil regulation 2022, the number of deaths recorded annually from Cardiovascular diseases will reduce drastically.
