Image result for Miners advocates states ownership, exploration of mineral resourcesThe Miners Association of Nigeria is advocating a constitutional review that would empower state governments to control the exploration of mineral resources in their states.

President of the association, Kabiru Kankara, made the appeal at the fourth annual Mining Week in Abuja.

Godwin Agwam reports that the tussle between state governments and federal government over the control of exploration of mineral resources has continued to gather momentum.

The Nigeria constitution empowers the state government to take charge of the land surface while the federal government takes control of the minerals.

But the Miners Association of Nigeria, are of the belief that more untapped resources would be explored if state governments are constitutionally
empowered to control resources in their domains.

State governments, believe that if they are empowered to explore mineral resources, it would boost revenue throughout the mining sector.

The Federal Government expresses its commitment to increasing revenue generation in the mining sector. The conference is expected to come up with resolutions that would aid in the review of mining laws.
