The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported a rise in the number of metered electricity customers in the country to 6,579,818 as of August 2025.

According to the commission’s “Metering Status of Distribution Companies” factsheet for July and August, the figure represents a 1.09 percent increase from 6,508,611 recorded in July.

NERC also noted that the total number of active electricity customers across all distribution companies (DisCos) grew by 0.53 percent — from 11,897,246 in July to 11,960,101 in August.

During the period under review, 70,888 customers were newly metered, compared to 76,783 in July, showing steady progress in efforts to close the metering gap across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
