The Labour Party has warned that it will seek the nullification of the August 16, 2025 bye-election if the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, fails to publish the names of its candidates and include its logo on the ballot.

In a statement by National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the party accused INEC of working for anti-democratic interests and called on well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on the Commission to respect the Constitution and the Electoral Act.

The Labour Party insists that under the 2022 Electoral Act, any party excluded from an election is entitled to seek legal redress.

It condemned what it described as a waste of taxpayers’ money, warning that it will not tolerate actions that damage its image or reputation.

Citing a Supreme Court judgment of April 4, 2025, which ruled that party leadership issues are an internal affair, the Labour Party said its current leadership emerged from a March 27, 2024 convention in Nnewi led by Barrister Julius Abure.

The party urged INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to obey the court’s ruling and respect the decisions of its leadership.
