Lawmakers set for showdown with Police over raid on Goje’s apartment

Image result for Danjuma GojeNigerians may have to wait longer for the passage of the 2017 budget as the National Assembly says the document has been hijacked by the police after a raid on the house of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation,
Senator Danjuma Goje.

The Senate at Wednesday’s plenary heard that the police raid led to the confiscation of eighteen files and one laptop that all contained certain parts of the completed 2017 budget earlier scheduled for final presentation this week.

TVC News Sumner Sambo reports that the Inspector General of Police later rushed to meet with the Senate leadership on the issue after plenary.

Just when Nigerians thought the 2017 budget would be free of scandal unlike that of last year, the Senate heard at plenary that a police raid on the appropriation Committee chairman’s residence means the budget process has
been disrupted.

This is due to confiscation of some parts of the finished Appropriation Bill.

On hearing about the ripples being generated by the seizure of the documents, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris rushed to the National Assembly in an attempt to douse the tension, but it seems that the federal lawmakers are set for a showdown.

The Police Chief on the other hand, refused to speak with journalists.
