Katsina state Governor, Aminu Masari has advocated more investments in science education with private sector support.

Governor Masari made the remarks while receiving the Country Director of Volunteers Services Overseas who were in the state to observe how science practicals are conducted through one its mobile science laboratory projects .

TVC News Katsina Correspondent, Awwal Ibrahim reports that governor Masari commended the group for its interest in raising science-based students through investment in mobile van technologies that house modern science equipment.

He promises more investments by the Katsina state government in the teaching of science and technology.

VSO Nigeria says its volunteering mandate is to take science to schools where there are no laboratory equipment or even where there are no science teachers.

It said the project is also aimed at training science teachers to have twenty first century skills and ensuring child-friendly teaching methods.

The country director says the group is also looking into teachers motivation for increased performance.

They appealed to the Katsina state government for more budgetary allocation to the education sector.

Volunteer Teachers mostly from the NYSC scheme are actively involved in the project. They say the van would help students improve on their science practicals.

The students also expressed delight with the coming of the mobile laboratory.

VSO Nigeria aims to train more than 7500 Katsina students in science and mathematics.
