The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially wrapped up the first phase of the nationwide continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise, which combined online pre-registration and physical enrolment across the country.
Online registration commenced on August 18, followed by in-person registration on August 25.
In an update on Wednesday, Victoria Eta-Messi, INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, revealed that 9,891,801 Nigerians have begun their registration online since the process opened.
Of this number, 2,572,054 registrations have been fully completed as of November 28. The completed entries include 1,503,832 online finalisations and 1,068,222 physical registrations conducted at INEC centres nationwide.

Eta-Messi confirmed that the first phase of the CVR will officially close on December 10, while the second phase is scheduled to recommence on January 5, 2026, in line with the commission’s earlier timetable.
In compliance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, INEC will display the preliminary voter register from December 15 to 21 at local government offices where the CVR held.
The exercise will allow newly registered voters, individuals who transferred polling units, and those who updated their records to verify their details, request corrections, and flag entries involving ineligible or deceased persons.
The commission also noted that CVR activities in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remain on hold due to ongoing electoral processes. Eta-Messi said new dates for resumption in the affected areas will be announced later.
