Reality TV personality Tope Adenibuyan, widely known as Teddy A, has opened up about the personal and reputational damage caused by a viral allegation accusing him of domestic abuse.
Speaking during an appearance on the WithChude Podcast, Teddy A recounted how an online report falsely claimed that he physically assaulted his wife, actress Bamike “Bambam”, including during her pregnancy. He said the allegation, which quickly spread across social media platforms, caught him completely off guard.
Recalling the moment the story broke, Teddy A said the claims bore no resemblance to reality, describing how normal the atmosphere at home was at the time. “When they said I was beating my wife, which was a lot. I woke up, went downstairs, my wife was there, she was watching a movie, she was pregnant and laughing”.
He explained that the sudden spike in online attention alerted him to the situation, even before he understood what had happened. “Then I checked my phone and saw my notifications going off. I was like, I didn’t drop any content that’s trending, what’s going on, what did I do, or what are they saying now? As I went through the comments, my wife became very emotional and kept asking who did this. I honestly didn’t know, maybe it was one ex somewhere or village people trying to come after me”.

According to Teddy A, the false report generated widespread reactions online and left both him and his wife distressed, particularly because they could not trace its source.
He also revealed that he initially sought professional advice on how to respond and was encouraged to remain silent in the hope that the controversy would fade. With time, however, he realised that staying quiet had unintended consequences.
“I called my manager to ask what we should do, and he told me not to fuel the fire and just let it go. At the time, I didn’t really see the damage staying silent would do to my reputation. Even when my wife and I post ourselves, people still comment and ask if I’m sure I don’t beat my wife. Why would they say that? Why on earth would they do that? It affected me because it made people see me in a way that wasn’t true,” he added.
