Traditional rulers in Gombe have backed plans by the state government to go ahead with the Ruga settlements project.Correspondent Lanre Adeyemi reports that the now suspended Ruga settlement initially proposed by the federal government stirred passionate national debates. The division was mostly along ethnic lines.
Following the suspension of the initiative by the federal government, many thought the issue dead and buried until Governor Yahaya, said Gombe would still go ahead with the program.
And now, the government has gotten the backing of traditional rulers in the state., but not everyone is pleased with the move by Gombe State government.
The decision by Governor Yahaya on the Ruga settlement is bound to generate controversy and allegations of ethnic dominance. Still, the government argues that its motive is fostering lasting peace and prosperity in the state.
