Image result for Ghana moves to become container hub for West AfricaGhana said it is rehabilitating and extending its port to 3.7 million tonnes capacity per month as a way of positioning the country as the container hub for West Africa.

This was disclosed as the country gave its report on the floor of ECOWAS parliament.

Moyo Thomas reports that Clement Kofi Humado who read the Ghana report said the country is experiencing some trade challenges with its neighbours, chiefly because of the closure of the Nigerian-Benin border.

Ghana insists the closure infringes on the provisions of the ECOWAS Trade Liberalization Scheme and wants ECOWAS to react.

Mali, who also presented it’s country report, said the recent security situation has added to the dysfunction of state institutions and disintegration of national cohesion.

Members of the ECOWAS parliament will deliberate on issues jointly affecting the sub region and make recommendations to the ECOWAS council of ministers.
