The Federal Government has unveiled the Youth Electric Tricycle Empowerment Initiative, a programme designed to boost youth economic participation while advancing Nigeria’s transition to a cleaner, greener economy.

The initiative was officially launched at Eagle Square, Abuja, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represented by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Alh. Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi.

The President described the programme as a strategic investment in young Nigerians and a key step toward modernizing the nation’s transport sector through sustainable technology.

Implemented by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development in partnership with House of Destiny Global Services Ltd. and the National Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NATOMORAS), the initiative introduces electric tricycles as an eco-friendly alternative to conventional transport options.

President Tinubu commended the Ministry’s proactive approach, noting that the programme promotes youth-driven self-employment, reduces transport costs by up to 40%, and supports Nigeria’s energy transition goals.

He added, “This initiative is not just a technological advancement—it is a strategic investment in our young people and the future of Nigeria’s green economy,” highlighting its alignment with his Energy Transformation Program.

The Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, emphasised the government’s commitment to placing youth at the center of national development. He noted that the initiative ensures transparency and inclusion, particularly for youth in the informal sector who have historically been underserved.
