In a significant step to accelerate progress towards malaria elimination, the federal government has established an advisory board and ministerial task force on malaria elimination in Nigeria.
The Coordinating minister of health and social welfare Muhammad Pate explains that malaria poses a significant burden on Nigeria and a paradigm shift is needed from the standard approach to a more proactive and result-oriented method to defeat this disease.
In a statement signed by the senior adviser on media and external relations Tashikalmah Hallah the Minister stressed that despite being preventable and treatable, malaria continues to be a major challenge for the country.
The Ministerial Task Force, will contribute to the overall goal of the National Malaria Elimination Program and work to reduce the incidence of malaria. It will also aim to improve the impact of malaria interventions through coordinated efforts in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and awareness creation.
It will meet every 6 to 8 weeks, as well as during other scheduled meetings with membership reviewed biennially for renewal or replacement to achieve optimum results.
