The FBI’s acting head said on Thursday he believed the agency has sufficient resources to investigate alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election and he was not aware of any request for more resources.
He further informed the lawmakers, that he was unaware of any request by the agency for additional resources.
The American Senate Intelligence committee were quite firm in their questioning of the acting director.
McCabe said it is his position that the investigation stay within the FBI, rather than having a special prosecutor take over. He told the lawmakers that to date he is not aware of any political interference in the FBI investigation. He said he would alert the lawmakers if that situation changed.
He said the FBI considers the investigation “highly significant,” parting with White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ designation Wednesday as “probably one of the smallest things that they’ve got going on their plate.”
Sanders also said Wednesday that Trump had decided to fire Comey because “most importantly, the rank and file of the FBI had lost confidence in their director.” She also cited a loss of confidence within the Department of Justice and Congress.
