Governments at all levels must create an enabling climate and resources for local farmers to increase their yields on an annual basis.

This was the submission of speakers at the 2022 farmers’ forum, which will be held in Osogbo by the Justice Development and Peace Maker Centre to examine farmers’ actions in the state for the fiscal year just ended.

Nigeria accounts for a sizable number of exported produce from Africa to other parts of the world.

However, in August 2021, the National Agency For Food and Drugs administration and Control, NAFDAC said over 76 percent of Nigeria’s exported agricultural commodities are often rejected by the European Union for not meeting the required standards.

The rejection is attributed to technical barriers, non-adherence to best practices, and disregard for basic requirements among others.

A forum put together by Justice Development and Peace Maker Centre determined to examine and equip farmers across the state with requisite knowledge on modern farming.

Speakers want government and farmers, to collaborate with Research Institutes, to scale up Research and Development activities for the improvement of value chain of Agro processes.

They want governments at all tiers to be deliberate in their policies and programs in ensuring food security

The convener, John Oyejola attributed increase in rejection of the nation’s Agro exports to inconsistent government policies and programs.

He encouraged participants and Nigerians of voting age to elect candidates with track records in the coming election.

It is the 26th edition of the Programme with the Theme: Persistent rejection of Nigeria’s agricultural commodities in the global market; the way forward’.
