Image result for Ethiopia's Tedros becomes first African to head WHOEthiopia’s Tedros Adhanom has been elected the new head of World Health Organisation, becoming the first African to lead the Geneva-based UN agency.

Adhanom who has vowed to make universal health care his priority, was chosen from amongst three nominees in a process that began before September 2016.

Tedros will begin his five-year term after Margaret Chan steps down on June the 30th.

Chan leaves a mixed legacy after serving two consecutive five-year terms.
