Egypt urges Gaza's rebuilding without Palestinian displacement

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi urged on Wednesday for the restoration of the Gaza Strip without displacing its Palestinian population, as well as the rapid initiation of humanitarian operations in the devastated enclave following Israel’s genocidal attack.

At a news conference in Madrid with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Sisi emphasised the significance of fully implementing a cease-fire deal in Gaza.

US President Donald Trump has proposed taking over Gaza and resettling its Palestinian residents in order to develop it into what he calls “the Riviera of the Middle East,” an idea that has been strongly opposed by Palestinians, Arab countries, and many Western nations, who argue that it amounts to ethnic cleansing.

Egypt stated it has developed a “comprehensive” plan to reconstruct Gaza without displacing its Palestinian residents. Cairo is planning an emergency Arab gathering on March 4 to discuss a plan that opposes Trump’s idea.

Trump’s displacement plan came amid the ceasefire agreement that took effect in Gaza on Jan. 19, halting Israel’s genocidal war, which has killed nearly 48,300 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and left the enclave in ruins.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.

Israel is also facing a genocide prosecution at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
