Residents of Ohatekwe Ukawu in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have banished a 20-year-old man, Damian Oforbuike, following allegations that he murdered his mother in a shocking incident that has left the community in mourning.

The suspect is accused of attacking his mother, Onyemaechi, with a machete over the weekend before fleeing into a nearby forest.

Community sources told Vanguard that youths in the area swiftly organised a search, tracked him to his hideout, and apprehended him.

He was subsequently paraded around the community before being banished, with a warning never to return.

A video circulating online captured the suspect allegedly confessing to the crime, citing domestic grievances.

“I killed my mother because she refused to bathe me and also refused to rent a shop for my brother who learned barbing and needed money to start,” he said.

The councillor representing the area, Maduabuchi Nweke, confirmed the development, stating that more than 200 youths were mobilised to comb the forest and arrest the suspect.

He added that the suspect has since been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been deposited in a morgue.
