DRC: Presidential opposition Fayulu warns against electoral fraud

Presidential opposition candidate Martin Fayulu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo general elections, has warned against electoral fraud.

He called for caution on Wednesday as he cast his ballot at the polling station in Kinshasa.

Speaking with reporters after casting his vote, he said any inconsistency in results will have an immediate response from his side, stating, if “anyone dares to try stealing your victory, we will take to the streets to claim the victory of the people”.

Voting for the presidential, legislative, provincial and local elections began early morning in the DRC, but not everywhere and, generally speaking, with more or less serious delays and malfunctions.

The main opposition candidates have denounced the chaos and irregularities they claim to have observed in the election.

Approximately 44 million registered voters, representing a sizable proportion of the total population of around 100 million, are voting for their president, national and provincial MPs, and, for the first time, communal councilors.

The elections feature a sizable field of over 100,000 candidates in each of the four categories.

The outcomes of these elections will not be known for some days.
