As part of proactive measures to ensure public safety during the upcoming festive season, the Delta State Police Command has held a strategic security meeting with members of the Bankers’ Forum in the state.

The engagement, which took place on September 23, 2025, was convened by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda.

Represented at the meeting by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the CP underscored the need for heightened security awareness and preparedness as the ember months—historically associated with increased population movement and criminal activity—progress.

In attendance were the Chief Security Officer of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Asaba branch, Mrs. Evangeline Patrick, and 39 heads of commercial banks operating across the state.

According to a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the meeting focused on safeguarding banking environments and financial operations during the yuletide, a period known for heightened financial transactions and an uptick in criminal attempts targeting banks and customers.

DCP Adejobi urged financial institutions to bolster internal security measures, particularly the deployment of modern and functional CCTV systems within and around banking premises.

He emphasised that such surveillance infrastructure would significantly support police efforts in crime prevention and detection.

“Given Delta’s strategic location and its borders with Edo and other states, it’s important that security strategies are reviewed and reinforced,” he stated.

Mrs. Evangeline Patrick, Chief Security Officer of the CBN, commended the Delta State Command for its foresight in initiating the meeting.

She stressed the CBN’s policy of withholding cash disbursements to banks that fail to provide adequate police protection for their cash-in-transit operations.

DCP Adejobi reaffirmed the command’s dedication to ensuring the safety of lives and property throughout the state, assuring the banking sector of continuous collaboration and support from the police.

“This meeting is just a tip of the iceberg in the proactive steps we are taking to ensure a crime-free ember season,” he concluded.

The Delta State Police Command continues to urge all stakeholders, including the banking sector and the general public, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.
