The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs in separate operations across the state.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS), Ughelli, in collaboration with members of the Ughelli Vigilante Group, arrested two suspects linked to a series of robbery incidents in Ughelli and surrounding communities.

Edafe said the operation was carried out on June 14 following credible intelligence. Acting on the information, the operatives stormed the Okorodafe area of Ughelli at about 4:30 p.m. and arrested one Moses Francis, 29.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to participating in several robbery operations, including an incident that occurred along Aro Street, Ughelli, in April. His confession led operatives to a hideout where another suspected gang member, Cosmos Erueseke, 26, was arrested later the same day.

The police spokesman said both suspects are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang and recover weapons allegedly used in their criminal activities.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad deployed on stop-and-search duty along the Ozoro-Oleh Expressway intercepted a Toyota Sienna vehicle with registration number FST 242 YK at about 4 a.m. on the same day.

Edafe disclosed that while the vehicle was being searched, the driver abandoned it and fled into a nearby bush. Although officers immediately pursued him, he escaped arrest.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be illicit drugs, including codeine, tramadol, Swinol, Man G and Vega.
