As part of efforts to curb the smuggling of prohibited goods to the troubled north eastern Nigeria States, the Customs zone D unit says it has seized contraband goods worth more than 42 million Naira within the months of March and April 2019.
The Zone D headquarters of the Bogeria Customs Service situated in Bauchi State, has nine states under its control, with 3 from the North central zone and six from the north eastern zone.
Some parts of north eastern Nigeria have been bedeviled by the dreaded activities of the Boko Haram terrorist group in few past years.
Among the items seized are 1,120 bags of foreign rice, with some concealed in sugar sacks to deceive the authorities.
Others included Used footwear and used tyres.
While displaying the Items to Journalists, the Zone D Controller advised perpetrators to take advantage of the agricultural program of the federal government to start better lives.
He also warned perpetrators and sponsors of the illegal business they was no hiding place for them in the zone.
