Buhari renominates Magu as EFCC Chair

Image result for Buhari nominates Magu as EFCC ChairPresident Muhammadu Buhari is bent on having Ibrahim Magu confirmed as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission despite his earlier rejection by the Senate.

This comes as the President’s renomination letter was read by Senate President, Bukola Saraki after the Senate resumed from a closed door session that lasted about 80 minutes.

Buhari’s insistence on Magu may stem from the fact that the acting EFCC chairman had been cleared of allegations against him in the security report by the Department of state services.

The lawmakers rejected Magu’s nomination in December last year after the DSS report alleged several malpractices against him.

In the same vein, President Buhari also rejected the Senate recommendation that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal be sacked over corruption charges.

Buhari said the decision was informed by the failure of the senate ad hoc committee on the humanitarian crisis in the northeast to give Lawal a fair hearing.

The decision was contained in a letter also read by Saraki on yesterday.
