The Director General of the National Biosafety Management Agency, Rufus Ebegba said the public should support the ruling party in next year’s polls so the party’s candidates can build on existing achievements by the present administration.
He made this know when the Renaissance team for Tinubu Shettima paid him a visit.
Over the last few years Nigeria has seen the commercial release of genetically modified cowpea and cotton varieties.
The crops modified with the bacillus thuringensis gene are fortified against the pod borer and pink boll worm respectively which have affected production of the two crops.
The country’s biosafety management agency was a critical part of this process because ahead of the crops’ commercial release , it gave approvals for their environmental release.
This followed several tests and analysis to ensure they were environmentally safe and fit for human consumption.
At this meeting with the Renaissance team for Tinubu Shettima , the biosafety authourities say the present administration play a core role in helping it achieve existing success stories in its biosafety efforts as well as preventing the country from other related bio hazards.
