Floods in southern China have killed at least 15 people and prompted the evacuation of tens of thousands more, according to state media.
Seven people died and three were missing in the Guangxi region as a result of severe rains, with over 23,000 residents relocated to safer regions, according to the Xinhua news agency.
More than 300,000 people have been evacuated in neighboring Hunan province, and eight people have died.
More rain is forecast in coming days, according to the China Meteorological Administration.
China’s most deadly floods in recent history were in 1998, when 4,150 people died, mostly along the Yangtze River.
Much of China, including Beijing, is swelting in heatwaves that have arrived earlier and lasted longer than in previous decades.
