A thunderstorm, which occurred at the Akure Airport, has destroyed some equipment at the control tower.
The damage was caused by Monday’s heavy rain, which was accompanied by a thunderstorm.
The incident was said to have caused discomfort for passengers, airport users and other aviation officials working at the airport.
According to a source, some equipment like network time protocol, encoder, air conditioners, computers and other equipment in the control tower were destroyed by the storm.
“Monday’s thunderstorm really damaged many equipment at the control tower. The windows were smashed, while the ceiling also caved in.
“If you go round the airport, many buildings, including the staff quarters were touched. About seven buildings housing airport staff had their roofs removed, as a result of the thunderstorm.
“With the development, all commercial flights have been grounded until further notice by the airport authorities, pending the repairs of the damaged equipment”, the source added.
