Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

The appointment followed the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council after Professor Obamuyi emerged as the top candidate among 15 contenders interviewed for the position.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, June 26.

“Ondo State Governor, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

“The appointment followed the due recommendation of the Governing Council of the institution, in line with the University’s Act and extant regulations,” the statement reads.

According to the statement, the Governing Council, chaired by Dr. Tunji Abayomi, recommended Obamuyi in line with the provisions of the university’s enabling Act and other extant regulations.

Professor Obamuyi, a scholar of Banking and Finance, will succeed the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige.

Before his appointment, Obamuyi served as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and was the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

He was named the “Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa for 2015” by the Africa Education Leadership Awards in Mauritius and has also served as a member of the National Universities Commission accreditation teams, as well as Chairperson and Subject Expert of the Review Panel for the National Council for Higher Education in Namibia.

The new Vice-Chancellor has presented academic papers at conferences in several countries, including Finland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India and the United States.

The state government said Obamuyi brings to the office extensive experience in academic administration, research and institutional development.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence in the ability of the new Vice-Chancellor to build on the achievements of the institution.

The statement said the governor believes “Professor Obamuyi’s wealth of experience will consolidate the gains recorded by AAUA and take the university to greater heights in teaching, research, and community service.”

Aiyedatiwa also urged the new Vice-Chancellor to promote the university’s core values while encouraging peace, innovation and collaboration among staff, students and other stakeholders.

The governor further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting AAUA to sustain its position as one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned universities.
