The leadership of the Airforce Institute of Technology (AFIT) in Kaduna is appealing to the federal government to reconsider merging AFIT with the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
They argue that AFIT’s specialized focus on enhancing air power capability of the Nigerian Air force aligns with national security, expressing concerns that merging with NDA might compromise this mission.

This plea follows an announcement by the Federal Government, revealing intentions to merge, scrap, and subsume certain Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in a cost-cutting move based on the Steve Oronsaye Report on civil service reforms initiated in 2014.
The plea was made during the 2023/2024 matriculation ceremony of the Institute.
