Residents of Abia State are lamenting the high cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), otherwise known as cooking gas.

They are calling on the Federal Government to take drastic measures to crash the price of the product in the interest of the masses.

The high price of cooking gas has forced many households to find alternative in firewood, charcoal and kerosene powered stove.

A kilogram of LPG which used to sell at 1,000 is now 1,200 at many gas stations.

Consumers say they stick to cooking gas due to its advantages which include easy to control, little or no pollution and cooking faster.

These restaurant owners, however, say they use firewood because of its affordability not minding the environmental and health hazards.

While this gas station along bank road sells at 1,200 naira per kg.

This one here at mission hill, attracted this queue because a kg of gas is sold at 960 naira.

An official at Second Coming Gas, Clara Anyanwu, blames the fluctuation in prices to non-availability of the product.

Efforts by TVC crew to get the reaction of the Commissioner for Petroleum in Abia state, Professor Joel Ogbonna, on how the state intends to help with the prices, proved abortive, as he said he was not in town.
